Enter the international youth photograph and film-making competition and you could win a chance to participate in an on line film-making programme as well as in a greening and film making programme in Bulgaria. You may also win an opportunity to display your work around Europe, Asia and Africa.
The project is based on a transnational cooperation agreement between a number of partners from the EU (Bulgaria, Germany and France) and partner countries: Asia (Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan) and South Africa, with the common purpose, by means of non-formal learning, to motivate and improve the knowledge and skills of youth to express their position about global sustainable development challenges through the power of film-making and photos.

The project has two main goals are the participation of young people across countries and cultures and the raising of awareness among them of the global issue of sustainable development.
To this end, a number of activities have been organised, namely:
- A photograph and film-making competition for young people from the above listed countries, with the theme:
- “Sustainable Use of Natural and Energy Resources: Looking for the Right Balance”
- On-line training in film-making for the winners of the competition
- Training schools in Bulgaria on greening and film-making
- A movie festival and photographic exhibition to be held in Bulgaria
Guidelines for Entry
Terms and Conditions
- The competition is open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 25 who are residents of Bulgaria, Germany, France, South Africa, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
- Young photographers are not restricted to the environment theme but can focus on people, animals, buildings and surroundings and all subjects that may represent an inspiration to their art work.
- Entries can depict people in action, human emotions or real life day to day events.
- All work must be in digital format and of no more than 50MB each for movie clips.
- Each young entrant may upload three film clips or 5 photographs.
Due Date
- All work must be uploaded onto the website http://www.openyouthworld.net/
- by the 15 March 2010. Entrants will be required to register on the site prior to uploading their work.
- Late entries will not be accepted.
- Four winners per country will be announced on the 20 March 2010 and the names will be published on the website.
- All winners will be eligible to participate in the online and real time greening and film making programmes.
- All winners must be prepared to travel to Bulgaria for participation in the real time greening and film making programme in April 2010.
- The final winner will be announced September 2010.
Submission Guidelines
Please read these guidelines before submitting your entry:
- You must include your name, date of birth, home address/ e-mail/ phone number on each submission. If possible please, include your e-mail address. You must be between 18 and 25 years of age to be considered in this “youth competition”.
- Any work you submit may be published on the official website of the competition.
- Include the following originality statement for each work in the text body: “I hereby certify that the enclosed work is completely my own work”, followed by your full name to confirm your entry is completely your own work.
- Any writing may be edited and we reserve the right to publish our edited version without your prior approval.
- All works submitted become the property of the project “Sustainable Development through the Eyes of Youths”.
- All material published on the official competition website “Youth Eyes Change the World” is copyrighted to protect us and to exclude others from republishing or reproducing your work. However, all individual contributors retain the right to submit their work for publication elsewhere and you have our full permission and understanding to do so.

Submitting your Photo and Short Film on the Website
You may upload up to 5 photos which must be smaller than 10 MB each to be accepted onto the system. If you submit a short film, you may submit only 3 short films of 3-5 minutes max and smaller than 50 MB each to be accepted onto the system. Save all items in avi/mpg/mpeg/flv format. You may submit one photo work or one film in 1-2 categories of the topics below:

- Combating poverty
- Social inclusion

Criteria for Evaluation
Focus
The entrant’s ability to communicate effectively the message of the sustainable use of natural resources. For this submission, the use of technical effects will not be assessed for short listing of finalists. The emphasis will be on the effective communication of the message.
Evaluation committee
There are two levels of evaluation namely:
- One will be a public-voting system of people registered online: it is the responsibility of the entrant to access as many people as possible to vote in his/her favour. This vote counts for 60% towards the selection of the 4 finalists per country.
- The other will be voting by a panel of judges, as constituted by Junior Achievement South Africa. This vote counts for 40% towards the selection of the four finalists.
